Dr. Ernest Rehnke, who grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, attended medical school at St. George University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. After completing medical school, he spent five years training in General Surgery at Methodist Hospital in New York, which also included a Pediatric Surgery Rotation at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, and a Transplantations Rotation at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Following his training, Dr. Rehnke completed a one-year fellowship in Cardiovascular Surgery at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston.
Dr. Rehnke established his surgical practice in General/Peripheral and Vascular Surgery in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1987. Dr. Rehnke began performing weight loss surgery in 1998, and is the longest-standing Bariatric Surgeon in Pinellas County. He recently trained in the robotic approach and he also uses single incision, micro instruments, and traditional laparoscopy for the Gastric Sleeve, Laparoscopic Adjustable Lap Band, Laparoscopic Roux-n-y Gastric Bypass and Revisional Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Rehnke is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS)who has recognized him and Palms of Pasadena Hospital as a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Care.
